I don't know what "fastest skier in the world" means, but however it's defined wouldn't it be wiser to let Andy prove it first? Hope he has a good season.

Last year, Andy was ranked #1 in the world on the FIS Points List for sprinting. This list is calculated using qualifying results in sprint competitions. Based on that measure, Andy is indeed the fastest in the world!

Not to dwell on the subject, but I believe Andy was ranked 6th overall on the FIS sprint list last season with 210 points. Jens Arne Svartdal was first with 341 points.

Actually Eric you are referring to a different list - the well know World Cup Rankings. Andy was indeed ranked 6th overall on this list. The World Cup Rankings are based on World Cup Scoring with the winner of an event receiving 100 points, second getting 80, down to 1 point for 30th place.

The FIS list I referred to above is based on FIS points - basically the same as the USSA points used for rankings in this country. The FIS points list is used for seeding athletes, among other things. For sprint rankings, points are calculated only using the qualifying round. Andy's strong performances in the qualifying rounds led to him having the number one spot on this list at the end of last year.

Yeah... but doesn't being the best sprinter in the world means being the one who knows how to end up with the gold in the end...?

He might be the best 'sprinter', but he's not the best 'sprinter'...

Nevertheless a great athlete though.

They said "fastest," not "best sprinter."

You can obviously define fastest in many ways, but I think the point was that Andy routinely is one of fastest qualifiers in the world. You are right in saying that he is not best sprinter. Hopefully some day he will be.
