AK Crust
Published: Mon May 12, 2008 2:00 AM MDT Crust skiing in Alaska has remained amazing! This Saturday, the Alaska Winter Stars took advantage of the stellar snow conditions in the Chugach Mountains just outside of Anchorage at around 2000 feet above sea level. Cole Talbot, Andrew Dougherty, and I went for a 3-hour OD ski, starting from the Glen Alps Trailhead. After an hour of skiing in Powerline Valley, we decided to try something new, so we skied up a mountain called “The Wedge,” dropped down the far side to Ship Pass, and returned via Hidden Lake Valley. Here are some pics! Andrew Dougherty and Cole Talbot It was a picture-perfect day! Pictured is Avalanche Mountain This was one HUGE slope! We V1’ed about halfway up before turning back to head over to the Wedge. If you look closely, you can see Cole, Andrew, and another skier descending. The snow was perfect View of Ship Valley from the top of The Wedge The summit! Don’t look down
